Observations in Acts

  1. Acts is Acts because of the coming of the Holy Spirit on discipled people
  2. First generation believers caught the vision from Jesus
  3. Making disciples is the key to modern church planting
  4. The goal was always to multiply disciples, not add add more converts
  5. Each generation must own this mandate

Hindrances to Making Disciples

  1. Disciple making illiteracy
  2. Building our own empires instead of his kingdom
  3. A culture of religion against a culture of obeying Jesus
  4. Pastor/flock distinction
  5. Poisoning the well – bad experiences in the past
  6. Hebrew model of learning against the Greek model of learning
  7. Maintenance mentality against a missional mentality
  8. Pride of the human heart

Disciple Making Definition: “Reproducing the character, ways, and mission of Jesus in those God brings around you, expecting them to multiply the same in others.”

  1. The character of Jesus
  2. The ways of Jesus
  3. The mission of Jesus – John 10:32, 14:9, Luke 19:10, Matthew 9:9-13, 1 Corinthians 5:17-21, John 10:10, 1 John 3:8

Disciple Making Ingredients:

  1. The Holy Spirit
  2. A commitment to teaching truth
  3. A context of community
  4. A culture of obedience to Jesus
