It’s Almost Harvest Time

It’s cold in Virginia Beach this morning, it reminds me that it is almost time for the harvest. There will be harvest parties and harvest festivals, and while Thanksgiving is still weeks away, I thought about the spiritual harvest which is a reality of life.

It would certainly be a surprise if someone planted corn and pumpkins came up. It’s a natural law to reap what we sow, and it’s true in other areas, too.

  • If you gossip about your friends, you will lose their friendship.
  • If you spend time looking at porn, authentic relationship will suffer.
  • If you cheat on your taxes, that attitude will creep into other areas of your life and you will cheat there as well.
  • If you allow foul language from others into your mind, you will be more likely to use it yourself.
  • If you tend to skip church on Sundays, your children will also follow in your footsteps.

Every action has results:

Don’t be misled–you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. (Galatians 6:7-8)

If you plant to please your own desires, you’ll reap a crop of sorrow and evil. If you plant to please God, you’ll reap joy and everlasting life. So, the penetrating question is, “What kind of seeds are you sowing?”
