I. JESUS HAD A WORLD VISION

1. What was the mission of the 12 (Mark 3:14)?
2. What is the emphasis of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19)?
3. Did Jesus expect His men to catch His world vision?
4. How could 12 men reach the world for Christ?

II. PAUL’S CHARGE TO TIMOTHY – 2 Timothy 2:2

1. “The things which you” stresses the importance of the individual.
   1. John 1:42a – You are Simon… (as he was).
   2. John 1:42b – You shall be called a rock (as he would be).
2. “You have heard from me” stresses the importance of personal relationships.
   1. Paul desired to send Timothy to the Philippian church.
   2. Paul invested his life into Timothy (Philippians 2:19-24).
3. “These entrust” stresses the transmitting from one to another.
   1. Involves a deposit of trust, a commitment.
   2. It’s not “What you know,” but “Who you are.”
   3. What did Timothy “pick up” from Paul (2 Timothy 3:10)?
4. “To faithful men, discipleship stands or falls here (Proverbs 20:6) – (Let’s know Paul includes faithful women as well, women are also responsible for making disciples)
5. “Who will be able to teach others also” the process now begins to pick up steam.
   1. What four generations do you see in 2 Timothy 2:2?
   2. Is this addition or multiplication?

III. WHO QUALIFIES AS A “FAITHFUL MAN?”

1. His (or her) objective in life is the same as what God sets forth in Scripture.
   1. What two things are we to seek (Matthew 6:33)?
   2. Is your chosen vocation ever your life’s objective?
2. He (or she) is willing to pay the price to have the will of God fulfilled in his life.
   1. What is Paul asking Timothy to do with him (2 Timothy 2:3)?
   2. What does a soldier of Christ Jesus not do (2 Timothy 2:4)?
   3. What does an enemy of the cross of Christ do (Philippians 3:18-19)?
3. He (or she) has a love for the Word of God.
   1. How is your appetite for the Word (Jeremiah 15:16)?
   2. What is your Scripture intake (Psalm 119)?
4. He (or she) has a servant’s heart.
   1. How is it that we may become great (Matthew 20:26-28)?
   2. Notice the example of Jesus (John 13:14-17 – service, as well as forgiveness).
5. He (or she) puts no confidence in the flesh.
   1. In what are we to put our trust (2 Corinthians 1:9)?
   2. What sort of goodness does our flesh have (Rom 7:18)?
   3. How much confidence do you have in the flesh?
      1. How often do YOU come into your own conversation?
      2. How can you guard yourself from “fleshin’ out” (Galatians 5:16)?
6. He (or she) does not have an independent spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:14-15).
   1. We are a part of a “do your own thing” generation, they say that
   2. It is not good to let people tell you what to do.
7. He (or she) has a love for people (1 John 4:7-10; 3:16).
8. He (or she) does not allow himself to be trapped in bitterness (Heb 12:15).
   1. The context is the giving and receiving of rebuke.
   2. A wise saying: I will never let another person ruin my life by my hating him.
9. He (or she) has learned to discipline his life (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
   1. Are you saying “no” to temptation and bitterness?
   2. Are you saying “yes” to self control and meditation?
