The Demands of Spiritual Freedom

Skip Wallace preached this sermon on 1 July 2007 from Romans 6. Here are a few notes…

1. Where there is freedom, there is a death.

• The death of Christ - Heb 10:11-19
• The death of self - Rom 6:2-5; Heb 9:27; Gal 2:20)

2. Where there is freedom, there is identification.

• Identification with a country.
• Identification with Christ - Through baptism (Rom 6:3-4) and Through communion (1 Cor 11:23-26)

3. Where there is freedom, there is commitment, which bonds us to our task (Rom 6:12-13)

• Don’t sin - it must not control us.
• Do works (Eph 2:8-10)

Independence Day is the Day of Salvation, independence from sin yet dependence on Christ.
