The National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is held on the Sunday in January that falls closest to the day on which the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions were handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973. This year it is January 23, 2011.
In this brief video clip, doctors and scientists explore how the belief in Neo-Darwinism affects our society. In the entire documentary, Ben Stein takes a fascinating look into the suppression of Intelligent Design theory within our scientific and educational communities.
For me, the issues of abortion, euthanasia, rape and violence are results of our national view of life that was birthed due to embracing Darwinian philosophy. Life is devalued if human beings are on this planet because of time plus chance. Children are taught in schools that we are here by accident. If we remove God from society and support evolution, we are nothing more than apes that made it up the ladder. If humans are not a unique creation of God, then no wonder society behaves like animals; it’s all about survival of the fittest (bullying, fights, rape, abortion, theft, exploitation, they all come from the ideology that says, “it’s all about me”). No wonder teenagers give in to natural urges toward reproduction. When God is present, we can emphasize His higher standard; we really do have the freedom to say “no” to the natural instincts of the human animal. As Horton said, “a person’s a person no matter how small.” That is a statement that values human life.
